Jonathan Rottenberg is a Psychology Professor and the Director of the Mood and Emotion Laboratory at the University of South Florida.
Rottenberg's research focuses primarily on emotional functioning in depression. With funding from the National Institutes of Health, his research has been covered extensively in Scientific American, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, and Time.
In 2014, he published his book, "The Depths: The Evolutionary Origins of the Depression Epidemic."
Then, in 2015, Rottenberg started a global social media campaign to help change how people talk about and think about depression.
I have been on many sides of depression. I lived with severe depression for several years in the early 1990s.
In response to my experience, I came to focus my research on the study of depression. I received my Ph.D. in Psychology in 2003 and joined the University of South Florida faculty.
Most recently, I have continued to be an advocate for people who struggle with depression.
