About migraine
Migraine is a complex condition that comes with a wide range of symptoms. For some the main feature is a painful headache, but other symptoms can include sensitivity to light, nausea and vomiting, or distrusted vision. 03
Migraine attacks typically last from 4 to 72 hours and the majority of people are free from symptoms between attacks. Migraine can have an enormous impact on work, family and social lives of those impacted by the condition. 03
Migraine remains undiagnosed and undertreated in at least 50% of patients, and less than 50% of migraine patients consult a physician. 04
Migraine is the third most common condition in the world, impacting an estimated 1 in 7 people worldwide. 01
The financial burden of migraine is huge: In total, it is estimated that the NHS spends around £150 million per year on treating migraines and £250 million on care for headache sufferers. The cost to the wider economy is even higher, with around £4.4 billion a year lost to three million migraine-related sick days.05
